Way back in high school i originally had ideas of being a vet,
to heal sick animals. On completing high school in 1982, I'd
just turned 19 and photography was not more than a hobby. At
school i did darkroom technique but had no formal training.
By 1984/85 I had a girlfriend who was very attractive and loved
being photographed. It was then that my interest in glamour
photography began. At this time i was studying for a college
degree in applied science. In 1986 I bought my first slr camera
(olympus OM-10). By the late 80's i was assisting young models
with their portfolios and honing my skills taking pix of scenery
& nature.
In 1991 I went on my first photo safari to Jamaica to photograph
4 page 3 girls from England. In 1992 I worked with the very
young Adele Stephens, along with 3 other models in Portugal.
On my return to OZ, I had my first work published - the cover
of a local magazine! From 1991-1996 I combined my full-time
job as a technical assistant in a government laboratory with
my part time love - that being photography. By 1996 I'd built
up a number of client contacts around the world who were buying
my work for magazines, calendars, advertising, etc...
In June 1996 I left my full-time job to embark on a full-time
career in photography. Since then I've travelled to many countries
and worked with some of the most beautiful & wellknown glamour
models in the world. Adele Stephens, Kirsten Imrie, Belinda
& Kyla Cole being amongst them. I've had work published
throughout the world; from USA/England/Asia/Europe/OZ. Photography
has been the vehicle that has allowed me to travel around the
world, see wonderful places, meet interesting people and continue
my passion & hobby. Had anyone have told me at 21 years
old, that within 6 years i would be travelling the world photographing
some of the top glamour models, I would have replied, man are
you crazy? That's exactly what happened.
My hobbies and interests include photography & artistic
creativity, nature & bushwalking, sports & fitness such
as football, tennis, golf, jogging, swimming, etc... socialising
& having fun, spirituality & human developement, rock'n'roll
music: my favourite bands being Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Queen,
Thin Lizzy, Kiss, Bon Jovi etc... I once played in a band and
i have 2 guitars (a Gibson/Les paul & an Ibanez destroyer).
I suppose shooting naked models has it's pluses. Being a hetero-male,
I see some wonderful looking girls. I appreciate the natural
beauty & curvature of the female form. Bringing together
wonderful looking models and my innate, creative/artistic flair,
along with my ability to concentrate, gives me great pix &
results of which I'm proud. It's one of the highest accolades
a photographer can achieve-to have his work respected &
published.
As a glamour photographer a question that i'm regularly asked
is "do I get to fool around with the models?" Lets
just say "it's like a buffet-it's spread out in front of
you, but you tend not to eat it all" ha! ha! Actually,
to be honest. It's a professional business that has to be treated
as such. I respect the models and treat them as equals. I have
made some wonderful friendships with some models, but working
with them is not an open invitation to have your way with them.
At the end of the day, quality pix that appeal to my clients,
is my main goal. If the model & I "hit it off"
away from the cameras, lights & studios, then that could
be interesting!!!
Who are my favourite models, is another question I'm regularly
asked. All I can say is that each and every pro-model I've had
the pleasure to have worked with, has exhibited her own uniqueness
& has special ways of expressing herself. The models I've
already mentioned in this bio are definitely right up there
amongst the best. My all time favourite super-model is Cindy
Crawford. My personal taste in women leans toward natural beauty,
with a touch of class; Jaclyn Smith (ex-charlies angel), Ashley
Judd, being 2 of my favourites.
Iv'e converted a 4 car garage into a studio, which is where
I take most of my indoor pix. I simply incorporate different
back -drops and other various props to suit the mood/scene etc...
My preference is to shoot outdoors, as it exposes me (pardon
the pun) to a greater variation of locations and useage of natural
light. Shooting outdoors is like shooting in a huge outdoor
studio, when balancing light from sunlight, reflectors &
fill-flash, etc..
